Bistro d'Edmond (2nd)

Bistro d'Edmond
23 Rue du 4 Septembre
75002 Paris

About 10 steps from the front door to our apartment building is an eponymous eatery called "Bistro d'Edmond". Like our initial visit to "La Bombe" the weeknight atmosphere is similar to an American Sports Bar, with a big TV on one wall and rather loud techno music drowning out the conversations of the after-work business crowd.

Bistro d'Edmond is right next to our apartment

Possibly due to the atmosphere -- and the exceptional experiences we had at the bistros in the 15th -- we were disappointed by our first visit. Before moving to Paris we had fantasized about having a friendly neighborhood cafe where we could become regulars. But the food was average at best, the music was too loud, and when we told the waiter we had *just* moved into an apartment practically upstairs he gave us a blank look and said, in broken English, "There no apartments upstairs... just office."

The following Saturday we did some shopping and exploring, and since Bistro d'Edmond was open we stopped for a drink and a small meal.

This time we were pleasantly surprised! We ate outside, under some heat lamps, and listened to English and French folk music. Our beers were very good and we both enjoyed our meals. A lot!

Melanie ordered fried calamari -- she said it was some of the best she's ever had

I got fried shrimp, with a chili dipping sauce

I've learned that Parisians don't like spicy food, so I was pleasantly surprised that the chili dipping sauce that came with my fried shrimp had a little bit of a bite to it. Delicious!

So I think we'll enjoy this place on the weekends and maybe avoid it on weeknights, when they cater to the hip after-dinner crowds. (The 2nd is very much a "business district" so after work there are a lot of people running around in suits and ties.)
