I've been too busy to post, but here's a quick update of where we are at with our move:
HOUSE
Home sweet home... for a little while longer |
After a small bidding war we sold our home to a local realtor. He's going to spend $50,000 or so to fix it up, upgrade all the appliances, etc., and then he'll probably sell it for a tidy profit.
We continue to make good progress, which is good because we have to be completely moved out of our house by the 9th of September.
PAPERWORK
Yep, nothing I like more than paperwork... |
We apparently need to have to get an apostille on our birth certificates and marriage license, which is basically a French certification of authenticity. Before this can be applied to the documents they have to be certified by our own government, and unfortunately the whole process has to be done in the county where they were issued. For us, that's back in Wyoming and Colorado. We could probably do it through the mail, but we wanted to visit our families back there before we leave anyway, and this helps solve the dilemma of what to do with our car. (See below.)
CAR
We love our Mazda 323 |
After spending a couple of days in Paris several months ago we quickly realized that we had NO desire to drive a car there. So we either needed to sell our car or figure out some way to store it. We don't really have time to sell it (and we only bought it a few years ago and still love it), so we decided to leave it in my parent's garage. They had room for it and we wanted to drive back to see them anyway, so this should work out great.
SCHEDULE
Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping... into the future... |
If all goes well, here's our schedule for the next few weeks:
September 9th - Finish moving out of the house
September 12th - Have a party with Autumn and some friends
September 13th - Leave for Wyoming and spend a few days with Melanie's family
September 15th - Drive to Cheyenne Wyoming to get documents apostilled
September 19th - Drive to Colorado to see my family
September 25th - Leave for Paris!
